W 2459, excerpt reproduced with permission under the terms of the CC0 licence)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/culture\/sisi\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"34621\">Empress Elisabeth<\/a> (1837-1898), wife of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/culture\/franz-joseph\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"26307\">Franz Joseph<\/a>, has an air of mystique about her that the decades have yet to truly penetrate. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The carriage (taken from a defeated Napoleon) that Elisabeth arrived in on her first visit to Vienna as the Emperor&#8217;s betrothed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Toiletry items and accessories, like a pair of her gloves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The carriage that took her to be crowned Queen of Hungary, and the landaulet carriage she took with her on that fateful trip to Geneva<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Her riding crop and portraits of some of those thirty horses mentioned earlier<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>And for fans of period fashion&#8230;her original bridal train, a Chenille dress, and an exquisite black court dress. Check the alarmingly narrow waists!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The bridal train appears as an ensemble. The gala gown with it is a reconstruction based on an 1857 portrait painting at the Silesian National Museum that seems to match the train.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Though, to be fair, experts cannot yet say with 100% certainty whether the empress wore the gown at the wedding itself in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/augustinerkirche\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"17061\">Augustinerkirche<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tickets\">Tickets &amp; visitor tips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not a huge exhibition, but it certainly adds considerable value to your visit to the carriage museum.
