At the time of writing, for example, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/khm\/overview\/\">Kunsthistorisches Museum<\/a> typically has child-friendly tours in their KHM Stories app, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/mozarthaus\/\">Mozarthaus<\/a> has an audioguide designed for children<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you have a pram, you should be fine getting around. Among the many things to to see and do, I particularly recommend:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The rainforest house: a giant split-level glasshouse that mimics the climate and vegetation of that ecosystem. Full of free-roaming birds and fruit bats, as well as enclosures with otters, turtles, lizards, snakes and more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The aquarium: especially the underwater tunnel and the large coral reef display. It has, for example, a lovely multi-level tropical house with free-ranging birds and monkeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, and plenty of crocodiles, snakes, and sharks for that little extra touch of excitement. The new massive 120m\u00b2 free-standing shark aquarium, for example, is rather spectacular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be sure to go up to the rooftop restaurant afterwards and enjoy the amazing 360\u00b0 views across Vienna. Enjoy an array of optical illusions on posters and in display cabinets that have you struggling to deny what your eyes are telling you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the real joy comes from the installations that mess with perspective. Stand in a room where the kids appear twice the size of their parents. Three particular tips for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/natural-history-museum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"252\">Natural History Museum<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The dinosaur hall (dinosaurs!) has a suitably-intimidating animatronic model of an Allosaurus (a bit like a T-Rex) and the giant fossilised dinosaur poo rarely fails to elicit a delighted response from the children<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gallery 15 has a little photo installation that takes your picture and morphs it into a prehistoric humanoid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>That prehistory section also includes a video installation that projects you onto a wall wearing centuries of different fashion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The museum shop offers a huge variety of toys and other items if you need to bride\/reward the kids at any point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IMMERSIUM:WIEN<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/immersium1.jpg\" alt=\"Entrance to the Immersium\" class=\"wp-image-76499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/immersium1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/immersium1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(This way to enjoy some quality time with some virtual animals)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/immersium-immersive-experience\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"76498\">IMMERSIUM:WIEN<\/a> is a series of rooms and stations filled with multimedia, immersive and interactive experiences on a particular theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One previous theme, for example, was Planet Wildlife in cooperation with the national broadcaster, ORF. You fed virtual penguins, enjoyed a polar dance off, interacted with elephants and walruses, took a safari ride, and much more. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/chocolate-museum-workshop\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"79724\">Chocolate Museum Vienna \u201cBO-YO\u201d<\/a> is less museum and more workshop opportunity, particularly the one-hour chocolatier workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You and the kids get to pour your own bars and decorate them with a range of toppings. All family-friendly and a lot of fun. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/winter-palace\/butterfly-house\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2664\">Imperial Butterfly House<\/a> recently reopened after extensive refurbishments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The butterflies really are both plentiful and beautiful. And it&#8217;s a small hothouse, so won&#8217;t take long to get round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The building (a Jugendstil palm house) lies right next to some of the main sightseeing spots, so you can use it to keep the kids happy between palaces and paintings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><em>Ad:<\/em><br><\/div><div data-tiqets-widget=\"discovery\" data-cards-layout=\"horizontal\" data-content-type=\"venue\" data-content-ids=\"219199,205287\" data-partner=\"visitingvienna\" data-tq-campaign=\"DA_VR\"><\/div><script defer src=\"https:\/\/widgets.tiqets.com\/loader.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-children-s-museum-in-schonbrunn-palace\">The Children&#8217;s Museum in Sch\u00f6nbrunn Palace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, there&#8217;s a clue in the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/schonbrunn\/childrensmuseum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"119\">Kindermuseum Schloss Sch\u00f6nbrunn<\/a> in the Habsburg summer palace complex gives youngsters an insight into life as a member of the Imperial family in the 18th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best bit is the dressing up area, where the kids can put on period costume and pretend to be little princes and princesses (or Archdukes and Archduchesses to give them their proper title).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rest of the Sch\u00f6nbrunn Palace area has one or two other activities likely to bring joy to the younger generation: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/schonbrunn\/maze-labyrinth\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"15481\">mazes<\/a>, for example (and the zoo, of course).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"spanish-riding-school\">Spanish Riding School<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/SpanishRidingSchoolStables.jpg\" alt=\"Spanish Riding School stables\" class=\"wp-image-41431\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/SpanishRidingSchoolStables.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/SpanishRidingSchoolStables-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The Stallburg stables, viewable on a tour)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your children are at least three and like horses, then make sure to take them to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/spanishridingschool\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"278\">Spanish Riding School<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tickets to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/spanish-riding-school-performances\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"89085\">dressage performances<\/a> can be tough to come by, but you can watch the white stallions train to music most mornings fairly easily. It includes numerous big machines to gape at and those all-important buttons to press. But the location also has various areas dedicated to younger visitors. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you have young kids, two large play areas let toddlers mess about in all sorts of creative environments. Both can get busy, though, as they make excellent play date venues for local families, too<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you have older kids, the &#8220;in motion&#8221; exhibition invites them to explore the world of mobility with 30 interactive learning stations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can spend a lot of time in here. While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/haus-musik\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"16237\">Haus der Musik<\/a> does have sections showcasing composer memorabilia for the likes of Beethoven and Mozart, many of the displays are more futuristic and interactive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The kids can, for example, create their own CLONG sound creature aided by virtual reality, conduct the Wiener Philharmoniker, or roll their own waltz using dice. Not to mention the stairs that work like a piano.
