I&#8217;ve become a bit of an advocate for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/vivaldi-concert-karlskirche\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"74311\">the performances<\/a> of Vivaldi&#8217;s <em>The Four Seasons<\/em> at the baroque Karlskirche church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lead violinist left quite an impression on me with his stage presence, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"exhibitions-in-march-2022\">Exhibitions<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/jewishmuseum.jpg\" alt=\"Jewish Museum on Dorotheergasse\" class=\"wp-image-43049\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/jewishmuseum.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/jewishmuseum-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The Jewish Museum main location)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vienna always has numerous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/exhibitions\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"37363\">art and other exhibitions<\/a> going on at any one time, and many delights will come your way in March 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My highlights<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The exhibition around Messerschmidt&#8217;s iconic and perplexing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/messerschmidt-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"86760\">baroque character heads<\/a> has its last full month at Lower Belvedere. But we continue with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/waldmuller-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"88857\">lovely landscapes<\/a> of 19th-century painter Ferdinand Georg Waldm\u00fcller and contemporaries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The exhibition on paper as an artistic medium at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/albertina\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2995\">the Albertina<\/a> draws to a close: it runs until March 22nd. But their solo exhibitions for Leiko Ikemura and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/honore-daumier-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"88628\">the wonderful Honor\u00e9 Daumier<\/a> continue. A new exhibition with artistic perspectives on care work begins March 12th<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Like Daumier, Gustave Courbet blessed 19th-century France with his artistic talent, as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/gustave-courbet-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"88851\">Realist and Rebel exhibition<\/a> at the Leopold Museum reveals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/albertina-modern\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"21859\">Albertina Modern<\/a> begins its exhibition of dance photos from the decades around 1900 (from March 3rd)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More photos over at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/natural-history-museum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"252\">Naturhistorisches Museum<\/a>, where Gregor Sailer presents two contrasting systems of production for an era of food abundance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Get up close (figuratively and literally) to baroque still life painting at the Kunsthistorisches Museum&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/khm\/pieter-claesz-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"83607\">Claesz exhibition<\/a> (until March 15th) before enjoying the cityscapes of Messers Canaletto &amp; Bellotto (from March 24th)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We also have the final days (until March 8th) of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/line-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"84519\">The Line<\/a>: the Heidi Horten Collection&#8217;s ode to one of art&#8217;s main elements and featuring numerous top works. Their new exhibition &#8211; <em>Animalia<\/em> &#8211; begins shortly after on March 27th<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><em>Ad:<\/em><br><\/div><div data-tiqets-widget=\"discovery\" data-cards-layout=\"horizontal\" data-slug-ids=\"exp206741,exp238032\" data-partner=\"visitingvienna\" data-tq-campaign=\"DA_ConcTour\"><\/div><script defer src=\"https:\/\/widgets.tiqets.com\/loader.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Gartenpalais Liechtenstein hosts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/dealing-in-splendour\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"88456\">a special exhibition<\/a> exploring the development of the art market through the ages, with a few handy masterpieces to add suitable illustrations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Discover the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/helmut-lang-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"87426\">genius and creativity<\/a> of designer Helmut Lang at the MAK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enjoy the mid-career retrospective for Leopold Kessler over at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/musa\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"22139\">musa<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/wien-museum-karlsplatz\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"66174\">Wien Museum<\/a> introduces us to the genesis of the infograph: the isotype approach invented in Vienna in the 1930s. And the museum begins its look at the cultural, recreational, and historical importance of Vienna&#8217;s own Donauinsel river island (from March 26th)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cast your mind back to (possibly) simpler modern times and enjoy the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/mapping-60s-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"73453\">art and art culture of the 1960s<\/a> at the mumok as well as an in-house retrospective of the 1980s<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/jewish-museum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1591\">Jewish Museum<\/a> tackles skin colour and prejudice in the context of Jewish identity, but also explores how the concept of forgetting plays such a role in our sociocultural history and present<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Learn about the circular economy and its relationship to resource use and our consumer decisions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/more-than-recycling\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"85272\">over at the Technisches Museum<\/a>. But that means the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sightseeing\/easter-markets\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2941\">Easter markets<\/a> already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/eastermarkets\/dates-open\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"22074\">begin<\/a> in March. Two of the big three markets open on March 20th, with the third following March 25th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These seasonal markets make a rather nice holiday diversion. As well as arts &amp; crafts of a higher quality, you also get to enjoy a variety of local snacks and specialties&#8230;though many inevitably live at the relatively unhealthy end of the nutritional spectrum. Cough, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/food\/sausages\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1200\">sausages<\/a>, cough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"vinyl-film-and-canvas\">Music &amp; film<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>March typically hosts a number of festivals as Vienna slowly emerges from its winter sleep. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a-taste-of-retro\">Vinyl &amp; more<\/h4>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"212\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/vinylposter2025.jpg\" alt=\"Festival poster\" class=\"wp-image-71504\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Ottakringer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/vinyl-music-festival\/\">Vinyl &amp; Music festival<\/a> (March 7th and 8th) is a market, fair, exhibition, and live music festival rolled into one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Held in a working brewery, it harks back to the days when music was &#8220;real&#8221; and not this manufactured nonsense the kids listen to these days. Why, I remember when all you needed was a washboard and a&#8230;sorry, pass me my slippers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Actually, the festival combines a retro feel with contemporary dynamism. &#8220;Authentic&#8221; is the word I&#8217;d use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, for example, is the 10th anniversary edition and sees the return of the Wiener Instrumente Salon, with various instrument makers collecting to showcase their skills and products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if that&#8217;s not enough music for you, then further options are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/blues-spring\/\">Vienna Blues Spring<\/a> starts up in earnest on March 20th with a host of national and international bands, singers, and musicians from the genre<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hofmusikkapelle.gv.at\/en\/program\/uebergaenge-festival\">\u00dcBERG\u00c4NGE festival<\/a> of sacred and secular music begins on March 29th and runs to April 5th<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8230;and the <a href=\"https:\/\/akkordeonfestival.at\/\">International Accordion Festival<\/a> fills much of the month (February 21st to March 15th)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"film-and-photo\">Film fun<\/h4>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/VotivKinofilmfestivalsign.jpg\" alt=\"Votiv Kino film festival sign\" class=\"wp-image-41564\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/VotivKinofilmfestivalsign.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/VotivKinofilmfestivalsign-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The Votiv Kino cinema hosts showings of the Festival du Film Francophone)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One or two notable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/film-festivals\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"17806\">film festivals<\/a> typically brighten screens in March.
