We have these coming treats, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/albertina\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2995\">Albertina<\/a>, indulge in a special exhibition commemorating their 250th anniversary (we get to see D\u00fcrer&#8217;s <em>Young Hare<\/em> for the first time in a long while). The museum also has exhibitions featuring Richard Prince and Helga Philipp, as well as (from July 15th) travel photography from the 1800s<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/albertina-modern\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"21859\">Albertina Modern<\/a> brings us star US artist KAWS in dialogue with other contemporary artists. And the museum presents movement and optical illusion in the form of art by Victor Vasarely and Marc Adrian<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Travel into the past at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/khm\/overview\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1446\">Kunsthistorisches Museum<\/a> with the scenes and vistas painted by Canaletto and Bellotto<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Innovative designer and artist Anni Albers gets a solo exhibition at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/lower-belvedere\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3384\">Lower Belvedere<\/a>. The same location also starts its retrospective for avant garde artist Erna Rosenstein from July 3rd<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meanwhile at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/upper-belvedere-palace\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3521\">Upper Belvedere<\/a>, take an in-depth look at two paintings by Johann Baptist Lampi the Elder and the Younger<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Many modern and contemporary artists have tackled the relationship between people and animals in their art, and this motif takes centre stage in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/heidi-horten-collection\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"47637\">Heidi Horten Collection<\/a>&#8216;s <em>Animalia<\/em> exhibition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Our national bank has a prestigious collection of modern and contemporary art, too. See some of it in the <em>Premiere!<\/em> exhibition at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/leopold-museum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4014\">Leopold Museum<\/a>. The same location also gifts us (from July 24th) with an exhibition around Herbert Boeckl and Hans Josephsohn<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To see the best of today&#8217;s Viennese art, try the major exhibition over at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/kunsthalle\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"22730\">Kunsthalle Wien<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gaze in wonder at the jeweler&#8217;s art over at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/mak\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"7100\">the MAK<\/a> with the museum&#8217;s exhibition around 120 years of Paris-based Van Cleef &amp; Arpels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><em>Ad:<\/em><br><\/div><div data-tiqets-widget=\"discovery\" data-cards-layout=\"horizontal\" data-slug-ids=\"exp206741,exp238032\" data-partner=\"visitingvienna\" data-tq-campaign=\"DA_ConcTour\"><\/div><script defer src=\"https:\/\/widgets.tiqets.com\/loader.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One important feature of the Danube in Vienna is the long island down its middle. This has a special place in the heart and history of the city, as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/wien-museum-karlsplatz\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"66174\">Wien Museum<\/a> exhibition demonstrates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Wien Museum also has a special Schiele exhibition, with art, memorabilia and biographical insight drawn from the Peschka collection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Technisches Museum goes topical with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/more-than-recycling\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"85272\">an exhibition on resource use<\/a> in relation to lifestyle choices, possessions, sustainability, the circular economy and similar. And they celebrate 200 years of railways with a special exhibition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The socioculture of forgetting (or not) is a topic explored at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/jewish-museum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1591\">Jewish Museum<\/a>, who also bring us paintings by Eran Shakine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Post-WWII Austria had a lot of recovering to do in all sorts of contexts. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/imperial-furniture-collection\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"910\">Furniture Museum<\/a> presents the development of local furniture design in the following years, for example<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thomas Bernhard &#8211; one of the country&#8217;s most renowned authors &#8211; gets museal treatment at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/literature-museum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"21648\">Literature Museum<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fire up Barry White on your playlist: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/winter-palace\/prunksaal\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2750\">National Library<\/a> special exhibition explores love through the centuries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Finally, catch the final days at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/natural-history-museum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"252\">Naturhistorisches Museum<\/a> of Gregor Sailer&#8217;s contrasting photographic visions of future food abundance (until July 19th)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Check the main <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/exhibitions\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"37363\">exhibition listings<\/a> for more detailed suggestions beyond my highlights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"visit-the-rathausplatz\">Films on the Rathausplatz<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/filmfestivalfacilities.jpg\" alt=\"Film festival facilities\" class=\"wp-image-41576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/filmfestivalfacilities.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/filmfestivalfacilities-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The space in front of city hall turns into an open-air movie theatre)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/rathaus-film-festival\/\">Rathaus Film Festival<\/a> typically starts in late <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/june\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"16505\">June<\/a> or early July and then continues daily across summer. Dates for 2026 are July 4th to September 6th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each evening, sit back and enjoy a free open-air viewing of opera, ballet, classical music or a more popular musical genre on the giant screen. And all on the Rathausplatz square in front of the giant neogothic city hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there&#8217;s more to this event than balmy audiovisual entertainment. Numerous gastro booths sell food, drinks, and snacks from domestic and international cuisines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So you might watch Lady Gaga duet with Tony Bennet, then go for paella afterwards. Just like any other midweek evening, really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"other-film-festivals\">Other film festivals<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Other open-air cinematic festivals and events commonly run in July as well, should the Rathaus version get too busy for you. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Europe&#8217;s largest free open-air music festival takes place on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/donauinsel\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"62574\">huge island<\/a> running down the mighty Danube river: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/donauinselfest\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"9655\">the Donauinselfest<\/a> (July 3rd to 5th)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yogajunkies.com\/en\/pages\/festival\">Yoga Junkies Festival<\/a> (July 25th to 26th) at Schlosspark Hetzendorf with many opportunities to learn about and practice diverse forms of yoga, along with workshops, a mindful market, music, dance, vegan food, and more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enjoy pop, rock, hip hop and more at the open-air (and free) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/popfest\/\">Popfest Wien<\/a> (July 23rd to 26th) on and around Karlsplatz. This music festival has dozens of live performances on various stages and showcases regional and national talents&#8230;from established musicians to relative newcomers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/donauinselopenair.at\/\">Donauinsel Open Air<\/a> is four successive one-day music festivals (July 17th, 18th, 24th and 25th) on the same long artificial island that hosts the Donauinselfest<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pop gives way to classic at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sclfestival.org\/\">Summa Cum Laude<\/a> international youth music festival (July 3rd to 8th)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Vienna Jazz Festival, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/jazz-festival\/\">Jazzfest Wien<\/a>, is no local gathering of performers but a significant event on the international jazz calendar (next dates TBA after a period of hiatus)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><em>Ad:<\/em><br><\/div><div data-tiqets-widget=\"discovery\" data-cards-layout=\"horizontal\" data-slug-ids=\"exp206741,exp238032\" data-partner=\"visitingvienna\" data-tq-campaign=\"DA_ConcTour\"><\/div><script defer src=\"https:\/\/widgets.tiqets.com\/loader.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"go-for-a-drink\">Go for food or drink<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ottakringbierfest.jpg\" alt=\"Ottakring beer festival sign\" class=\"wp-image-44391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ottakringbierfest.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/ottakringbierfest-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(Home to the Ottakringer Bierfest)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All that music might make you thirsty. As it happens, Vienna rolls out extra <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/water\/\">drinking water stations<\/a> in summer, as well as misting stations for cooling off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you fancy something with a little more pep&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Ottakringer brewery&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/beer-festival-2\/\">Beer Festival<\/a> is a traditional mainstay of July (runs throughout the month in 2026). Try Ottakringer&#8217;s own fine wares or those of their craft beer offshoot. They put on music sometimes, too. And street food. And offer other bonuses (like beer yoga and brewery tours)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sightseeing\/vienna-museums\/mq\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"4030\">MuseumsQuartier<\/a> also becomes a summer hotspot in July, thanks to the unique courtyard furniture, open-air bars, and other entertainments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"enjoy-a-sword-fight\">Enjoy a sword fight<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For something a little different&#8230;the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/montur-pulverdampf\/\">Montur und Pulverdampf<\/a> festival (next dates TBA after a period of hiatus) is a weekend of medieval and military reenactments. Sword fights, cannon fire, historical music, fire shows, craft markets, and more. Many places have little gardens tucked around the back or in courtyards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>July is also high season for Vienna&#8217;s many wine taverns (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/cafespubsbars\/heuriger\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"30836\">Heuriger<\/a>). Even beaches, watersports and swimming areas in some places.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Various boat services offer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/boat-tours-river-trips\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"59447\">short trips or day excursions<\/a> up and down bits of the Danube<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Look particularly for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/alte-donau-old-danube\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"50700\">Old Danube<\/a> (Alte Donau) recreational lake, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/donauinsel\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"62574\">Danube Island<\/a> (Donauinsel and Neue Donau) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/donaukanal\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"34106\">Donaukanal<\/a> arm of the Danube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Old Danube typically holds a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/lichterfest\/\">Lichterfest<\/a> at the end of July, where lighted boats spread across the water beneath a professional firework display. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/schlumberger-wine-cellars\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"71268\">Schlumberger wine cellars<\/a> for a tour and tasting. The historical cellars maintain a 13-15\u00b0C temperature, so keep you cool while you discover the traditions of sparkling wine production<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Vienna Woods (Wienerwald) rolls across the northwest of the city, crisscrossed by hiking paths and forest roads.
