They typically sell a few stamps and not a lot else as far as postal services go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You find these stores everywhere: see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/shopping\/trafik\/\">Trafik<\/a> article for information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The obvious and strongest alternative, however, is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.post.at\/\">Austrian postal service<\/a> (German: <em>Die Post<\/em>, with the Po pronounced with a British accent as in pot, so the word rhymes with flossed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You find post offices all over the place, clearly identifiable by the bold yellow colour on signs and displays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opening times vary, but are typically from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Find it next to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/accommodation\/airport-hotels\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3730\">NH Vienna Airport Conference Center<\/a> opposite the main terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Needless to say, today&#8217;s post office sells a whole lot more than just stamps and envelopes, but the general counters will take your mail, frank it, and send it off. Or they&#8217;ll sell you stamps, if you want something pretty on the postcard or envelope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You choose between two tariffs: priority and economy. I&#8217;d recommend using the priority tariff if you can. These typically get emptied once every weekday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The post offices (and possibly other sources) will give you free priority stickers to mark your postcard or envelope with if you&#8217;ve chosen that tariff for your stamps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you write the address on your postcard or envelope, you might get away with using English for the country name. But if you&#8217;d like to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/visitorinfo\/languages-do-they-speak-english-in-vienna\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"332\">local language<\/a> (German), here are some of the common translations&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>UK \/ GROSSBRITANNIEN (or Gro\u00dfbritannien if written in small letters)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>USA \/ USA (if you don&#8217;t spell it out, otherwise it becomes Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Canada \/ KANADA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Japan \/ JAPAN<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Zealand \/ NEUSEELAND<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Australia \/ AUSTRALIEN<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ireland \/ IRLAND<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India \/ INDIEN<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>France \/ FRANKREICH<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>China \/ CHINA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, you may simply prefer to use WhatsApp, Signal or similar to send international greetings.
