Opera House<\/a> (Staatsoper) jostles with the Met, Sydney and others at the top of the world rankings for opera venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Staatsoper also does rather nice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/opera\/staatsoper-tour\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"17051\">tours of the building<\/a> for those who want to look behind the scenes or get a flavour of the place without attending a full-blown performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The 2025\/2026 season<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2025\/2026 opera season began on September 3rd, 2025 with a performance of Mozart&#8217;s <em>The Magic Flute<\/em> and ends with Puccini&#8217;s 3-work <em>Il Trittico<\/em> on June 30th, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Five new productions colour the schedule for the season:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Smetana&#8217;s <em>The Bartered Bride<\/em> (premi\u00e8re on September 25th, 2025)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beethoven&#8217;s <em>Fidelio<\/em> (premi\u00e8re on December 16th, 2025)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verdi&#8217;s <em>Luisa Miller<\/em> (premi\u00e8re on February 7th, 2026)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mozart&#8217;s <em>La clemenza di Tito<\/em> (premi\u00e8re on March 9th, 2026)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bizet&#8217;s <em>The Pearl Fishers<\/em> (premi\u00e8re on May 14th, 2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/opera\/volksoper\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1083\">Volksoper<\/a> 2025\/2026 opera season began on September 4th, 2025 with the <em>Die Fledermaus<\/em> operetta by Johann Strauss II (singalong version) and ends on June 30th, 2026 with the same opera (pride version).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the many other operatic highlights, look for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> <em>Killing Carmen<\/em> by Nils Strunk, Lukas Schrenk and Gabriel Cazes with a fresh take on Bizet&#8217;s opera (premi\u00e8re October 1st, 2025)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Aschenbr\u00f6dels Traum<\/em> by Martina Eisenreich and Axel Ranisch with a modern Cinderella fairytale inspired by Johann Strauss&#8217;s ballet fragment to the same theme (premi\u00e8re November 29th, 2025)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"at-the-theater-an-der-wien\">At the Theater an der href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/opera\/theater-wien\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"18961\">Theater an der Wien<\/a> 2025\/2026 opera season began in the main house with a performance of Strauss&#8217;s <em>Die Fledermaus<\/em> on October 4th, 2025 and ends with Verdi&#8217;s <em><em>Stiffelio<\/em><\/em> on May 21st, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The associated Kammeroper location opened earlier with Rossini&#8217;s <em>L\u2019occasione fa il ladro<\/em> on September 23rd and ends later with two one-act operas <em>Lady Magnesia<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Zweimal Alexander<\/em> on June 19th, 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the many highlights at the main house is a world premi\u00e8re on December 14th, 2025: <em>Ich bin Vincent! und ich habe keine Angst<\/em>&nbsp;by Gordon Kampe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look out, also, for the Austrian premi\u00e8re of the operatic adaptation by Unsak Chin of <em>Alice in Wonderland<\/em> (begins November 17th,
