All are within a close and easy walk of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/opera\/staatsoper\/\">state opera house<\/a>; most are literally just over the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the hotel recommendations, find a few helpful tips for enjoying the opera and locality, advice on how to reach the area, and some more options for places to stay on a map that also covers apartments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In no particular order&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hotel Sacher Wien<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/hotelsacher.jpg\" alt=\"Hotel Sacher\" class=\"wp-image-42674\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/hotelsacher.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/hotelsacher-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(As much a Viennese institution as a hotel)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Possibly the city&#8217;s most famous hotel. Sitting on the opposite side of the road from the rear of the Staatsoper, this traditional Viennese establishment is a one-time star of <em>The Third Man<\/em> and also home to the iconic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/food\/the-sachertorte\/\">Sachertorte<\/a> cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve spent time in one of their suites and enjoyed a lovely breakfast with hotel guests in what felt like a palais salon. Put it this way: you don&#8217;t need to worry about quality, ambience and service. I was blown away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The local chamber of commerce grades the hotel as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/accommodation\/fivestarhotels\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"18\">five-star superior<\/a>: one of only four locations to carry that top-end designation at the time of writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you stay there, you really ought to have coffee and cake inside. Alternatively, as a non-guest, reserve a table for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/cafespubsbars\/cafe-sacher\/\">Caf\u00e9 Sacher<\/a>, where queues to get in are common and often quite long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Philharmoniker Stra\u00dfe 4<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/at\/sacher-wien.en.html?aid=1164678&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=1\" rel=\"sponsored\">Hotel &amp; booking details<\/a>*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Living Hotel an der Oper<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/livinghotel.jpg\" alt=\"Living Hotel an der Oper by Derag\" class=\"wp-image-43205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/livinghotel.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/livinghotel-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(Just exit and go left for the opera)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Offering rooms and serviced apartments further up K\u00e4rntner Stra\u00dfe (the street that passes by the opera house). It has an entrance to Karlsplatz subway station practically outside for easy access to Vienna&#8217;s excellent public transport system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go around the other side of the block to find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/cafespubsbars\/cafe-museum\/\">Caf\u00e9 Museum<\/a>: one of Vienna&#8217;s historical coffee houses and a former haunt of Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. The current look dates back to the early 1910s: the external railings and style hint at the rise of modernist tendencies in the architecture of the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that the hotel is now closed for major refurbishments until a (planned) reopening in time for Christmas 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>K\u00e4rntner Ring 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/at\/bristolawesvienna.en.html?aid=1164678&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=1\" rel=\"sponsored\">Hotel &amp; booking details<\/a>*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Le Meridien Vienna<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/meridien.jpg\" alt=\"Le Meridien Vienna\" class=\"wp-image-43206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/meridien.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/meridien-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The Le Meridien borders a small park)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you walk from the hotel in the opposite direction to the Staatsoper, another operatic icon actually appears in the form of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/mozart-monument-burggarten\/\">Mozart monument<\/a> in the Burggarten Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Burg Kino almost next door to Le Meridien is one of Vienna&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/theaters\/english-cinemas-vienna\/\">English-language cinemas<\/a> and probably best known for regular showings of the film perhaps most associated with Vienna: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/songsfilms\/third-man-locations\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"31222\">The Third Man<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For another cultural highlight, walk across the adjoining park and past the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/the-schiller-monument\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"39850\">Schiller monument<\/a> to visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/gemaldegalerie-paintings-gallery\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"42411\">Gem\u00e4ldegalerie<\/a> of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Especially given the extensive \u20ac15 million renovation programme that preceded the 2024 reopening of this art deco establishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Find it just behind Hotel Sacher toward the centre of Vienna&#8217;s old town. Keep going along K\u00e4rntner Stra\u00dfe to reach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/stephansplatz\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"83491\">Stephansplatz square<\/a> and the very heart of the city. Or try your luck in the building opposite. The 2024 Gault&amp;Millau guide to the best hotels in Austria named the hotel as its &#8220;new opening of the year.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest room is the Opera Suite, whose balcony looks out across to that very building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Incidentally, the Amauris takes its name from a butterfly, which makes a pleasant change. Also consider popping down K\u00e4rntner Stra\u00dfe to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/cafespubsbars\/sluka-karntner-strase\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"42425\">Sluka<\/a>, which has a quite wonderful Jugendstil interior to go with your cake and coffee. The Staatsoper sits next to one of the major transport hubs: Karlsplatz station has the U1, U2, and U4 subway lines, and trams 1, 2, D, 62, and 71 all stop at the Oper\/Karlsplatz tram stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clearly, you can get to and from the opera house very easily (and not forgetting taxis). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if you wish to stay in a hotel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/where-to-stay\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1647\">elsewhere in Vienna<\/a>, it should not be a problem getting to the evening performance and back again.
