After all, this was a man whose portfolio includes such iconic Viennese buildings as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sightseeing\/palace-of-schonbrunn\/\">Sch\u00f6nbrunn Palace<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/winter-palace\/prunksaal\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2750\">Court Library<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/karlskirche\/\">Karlskirche<\/a> church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Batthy\u00e1ny&#8217;s widow sold the palais a few years later to Count Friedrich Karl Sch\u00f6nborn. And so we have the origin of the name for this beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/culture\/baroque\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"30588\">late baroque building<\/a> that has survived world wars and regime changes largely intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today&#8217;s Palais Sch\u00f6nborn-Batthy\u00e1ny serves as an event location and exhibition premises for the W&amp;K art gallery. But that&#8217;s not all&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><em>Ad:<\/em><br><\/div><div data-tiqets-widget=\"discovery\" data-cards-layout=\"horizontal\" data-content-type=\"product\" data-content-ids=\"1008299,1029872\" data-partner=\"visitingvienna\" data-tq-campaign=\"DA_Concerts1\"><\/div><script defer=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/widgets.tiqets.com\/loader.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The concerts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time of writing, the <a href=\"https:\/\/classical-concerts.at\/\">Vienna Baroque Orchestra<\/a> uses the historically-appropriate location as a venue to present classical music from the likes of Mozart, Vivaldi, and similar names of the past&#8230;one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/classical-concert\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5359\">many such opportunities<\/a> in the city to hear classical music in a historical setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concerts typically take place regularly, with tickets available through the orchestra&#8217;s website. Photo provided courtesy of the Rijksmuseum)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Palais sits just off the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/freyung-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"29646\">Freyung<\/a>. That square contains various other prestigious town houses with the word palais in their name, but also the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/schottenstift-museum\/\">Schottenstift abbey museum<\/a>. The Freyung has rather nice seasonal markets at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/christmasmarkets\/freyung\/\">Christmas<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/eastermarkets\/freyung-ostermarkt\/\">Easter<\/a> too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This area is close to the ancient centre of Vienna, just up from where the first dukes set up home in a little town on the Danube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subway: two stations within a short walk of Palais Sch\u00f6nborn-Batthy\u00e1ny are Herrengasse (U3 line) and Schottentor (U2 line).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tram\/bus: various trams pull in to Schottentor, too, including the 1, D, 71, 37, 38, 40, 41, 42, 43 and 44 (it&#8217;s the starting\/end station for many of those tram lines).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alternatively, take trams 1, D or 71 to the B\u00f6rse stop and walk on down.
