Then it&#8217;s a 1-2 minute walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>U1 or U4 subway lines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tram lines 1 or 2 that each travel along a significant part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/ring\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1546\">the Ring<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nearby sights<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/postsparkasse2024.jpg\" alt=\"The Postsparkassengeb\u00e4ude\" class=\"wp-image-71697\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/postsparkasse2024.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/postsparkasse2024-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(An early example of modernist architecture: the Postsparkasse)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Canadian embassy has some rather exemplary pieces of turn-of-the-century architecture as near neighbours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turn left out of the building to reach Fleischmarkt, home to some remarkable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/jugendstil-centre\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"34058\">Jugendstil buildings<\/a> (look, particularly, for numbers 1, 3, 7, and 14).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The local area has a general historical feel to it, and Fleischmarkt also has one of my favourite coffee shops: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/cafespubsbars\/diglas-fleischmarkt\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"55798\">Cottage Roasters \/ Diglas<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head east afterwards for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/postsparkasse-building\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"32273\">Postsparkasse building<\/a> by Otto Wagner, widely considered a milestone in the evolution of modern architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The embassy also lies within the old town inner city, so just a few minutes&#8217; walk takes you to an awful lot of more traditional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sightseeing\/\">sightseeing attractions<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/stephansdom2023.jpg\" alt=\"Full view of Stephansdom from the south\" class=\"wp-image-70318\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/stephansdom2023.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/stephansdom2023-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(You&#8217;re not far from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/stephansplatz\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"83491\">Stephansplatz square<\/a> and the historical centre of Vienna)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head west and south, for example, to reach the great cathedral <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/stefansdom\/\">Stephansdom<\/a> and the main pedestrianised shopping streets of Graben and K\u00e4rntnerstra\u00dfe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go up the Graben, past the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/plague-column-pestsaule\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"432\">plague column<\/a>, to reach Kohlmarkt, which takes you on down to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sightseeing\/hofburg\/\">Hofburg<\/a> complex with its museums, imperial tours and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For something a little different, head north from the embassy and walk along the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/donaukanal\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"34106\">Danube canal<\/a> to view a heap of street art or find a beach bar (really: at least in the warmer seasons).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or go to Schwedenplatz and walk west to reach the &#8220;Bermuda Triangle&#8221; area with its many bars and restaurants, but also the medieval <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/ruprechtskirche-church\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"27738\">Ruprechtskirche church<\/a> (one-time star of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/songsfilms\/third-man-locations\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"31222\">The Third Man<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Address and website How to get to the Canadian embassy The embassy is one of the most central ones and extremely close to a major subway and tram station.
