The Icon is one of the new buildings that have sprung up around Vienna&#8217;s main rail station (Hauptbahnhof). Various bus, tram and subway lines serve the station. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tram lines 18 and O<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bus lines 13A and 69A<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The U1 subway<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Being near the station also means plenty of snack bars, restaurants and shops within the railway complex. Including a branch of my favourite caf\u00e9-konditorei: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/cafespubsbars\/konditorei-oberlaa\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"22922\">Oberlaa<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/embed?mid=1dH4rKt7-_P5MGbocuij12KuLp9g\" width=\"400\" height=\"300&quot;\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nearby sights<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The location is quite convenient for one of Vienna&#8217;s top tourist spots: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sightseeing\/vienna-museums\/belvedere\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"3308\">Belvedere palaces and gardens<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belvedere has two baroque palaces. Both the lower and upper palaces have their architectural attractions, but are perhaps best known for the excellent art exhibitions on display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upper Belvedere, for example, has the main permanent exhibitions that include Gustav Klimt&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/kiss\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1119\">The Kiss<\/a>. Lower Belvedere tends to feature temporary special exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belvedere has its own landscaped gardens between the two palaces, with two other public gardens adjoining the complex: the university&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/botanical-garden\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3453\">botanical gardens<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/alpine-gardens\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3421\">alpine gardens<\/a> run by the Austrian federal gardens authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other sights nearby include the modern and contemporary art museum and centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/belvedere-21\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"12893\">Belvedere 21<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/military-history\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"13063\">Museum of Military History<\/a>. The latter has some remarkable historical items inside, such as the car Franz Ferdinand was shot in: that event precipitated Word War I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The area around the military history museum is repurposing into cultural institutions.
