But it offers much more than the name suggests. It runs some 500m along a section of the central <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/ring\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1546\">Ring boulevard<\/a> called Parkring (creative naming really wasn&#8217;t a strength back then).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/wienfluss.jpg\" alt=\"The River Wien or Wienfluss\" class=\"wp-image-43972\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/wienfluss.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/wienfluss-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The River Wien and NOT the Danube)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The northern end faces <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/mak\/\">the MAK<\/a> (the Museum of Applied Arts) and the southern end has the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/kursalon\/\">Kursalon<\/a> and the Stadtpark station building (U4 subway exit).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That impressive Renaissance-style 19th-century Kursalon used to host regular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/classical-concert\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5359\">Mozart &amp; Strauss concerts<\/a>, but these have ended as the building is undergoing a long period of renovation. That station building also has a bit of history, being an iconic white and green Jugendstil design by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/otto-wagner-in-vienna\/\">Otto Wagner<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winding paths, trees, shrubs, statues, and water features fill the bits between the two ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The River Wien also flows almost apologetically through the Stadtpark, fully aware that some people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/mapsgeography\/the-danube\/\">mistake it for the Danube<\/a> and go home terribly disappointed.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/jugendstilstadtpark.jpg\" alt=\"Jugendstil in the Stadtpark\" class=\"wp-image-48771\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/jugendstilstadtpark.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/jugendstilstadtpark-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(A Jugendstil park entrance)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course of the Wien is mostly man-made now (it even disappears underground for much of its time in the city): the paved banks within the Stadtpark evoke memories of classical Rome and actually make a pleasant enough walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fans of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/culture\/jugendstil\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"31716\">Jugendstil<\/a> will also enjoy the architecture along those banks, particularly around the portal and stairs that connect Johannesgasse with the paths bounding the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That portal even featured prominently in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/songsfilms\/vienna-blood-season-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"38572\">Season 2<\/a> of Vienna Blood, as did the Stadtpark itself and the Kursalon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><em>Ad:<\/em><br><\/div><div data-tiqets-widget=\"discovery\" data-cards-layout=\"horizontal\" data-content-type=\"product\" data-content-ids=\"1008299,1029872\" data-partner=\"visitingvienna\" data-tq-campaign=\"DA_Concerts1\"><\/div><script defer=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/widgets.tiqets.com\/loader.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The trees in the park form a blend of colours and shapes, and the grassy areas invite you to linger a while, enjoy the sun (if there is any) and sigh contentedly at the prospect of your next <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/food\/wiener-schnitzel\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"45\">Wiener Schnitzel<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the paths takes you past memorials to some of the great Austro-Hungarian composers, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/franz-lehar\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"39818\">Franz Leh\u00e1r<\/a> (composer of the <em>Merry Widow<\/em> operetta) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/bruckner\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"39444\">Anton Bruckner<\/a> (who inspired, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/gustav-mahler\/\">Mahler<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Franz Schubert (no introduction required) gets his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/schubert-statue\/\">own statue<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/stadtparkriverwien.jpg\" alt=\"Stadtpark alongside the River Wien\" class=\"wp-image-65810\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/stadtparkriverwien.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/stadtparkriverwien-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The walkway along the River Wien)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chief among these monuments, though, is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/strauss-monument\/\">memorial to Johann Strauss II<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/johann-strauss\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"21524\">King of the Waltz<\/a>, whose tunes are as Viennese as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/food\/coffee-glossary\/\">coffee<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/food\/the-sachertorte\/\">Sachertorte<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The golden statue of Strauss on his violin has become an iconic photo opportunity, so attracts a lot of visitors. It dates back to 1903 when people went there to drink milk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And May normally sees the park host the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/genussfestival\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"46102\">Genuss Festival<\/a>, where small-scale regional producers from around Austria sell a diverse mix of quality food and drink to consume on site, take home, or use as gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-get-to-the-stadtpark\">How to get to the Stadtpark<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Given its size and location, you can find and reach the Stadtpark easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subway: as mentioned, the park has its own station (Stadtpark on the U4 line), and it also lies close to Stubentor (U3 line) and Wien Mitte-Landstra\u00dfe (U3 and U4 lines).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tram: take line 2 to Weihburggasse (the stop is on Parkring) or Stubentor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bus: take the 3A or 74A to Stubentor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Address: Stadtpark, Parkring, 1010 Vienna<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/embed?mid=1XQtry9T5x-yEU9Y9rWjHw7CYjEw\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The literal translation of Stadtpark is &#8220;city park&#8221;.
