They cover quite a bit of ground, which means plenty of public transport options. See the road map above for details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither has on-site parking for visitors. I always recommend walking or using public transport (or a taxi).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Street parking nearby is tricky: it&#8217;s a busy area and also a district-wide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/transport\/parking\/\">short-term parking zone<\/a>. The latter means limited street parking durations. You also need to understand the ins and outs of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/transport\/parkschein\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2552\">displaying a parking ticket<\/a> (not a simple pay and display system).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google can no doubt help find a public car park. There&#8217;s one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bestinparking.com\/en\/at\/garage\/garage-beim-palais-schwarzenberg\">next door<\/a> to Lower Belvedere, for example, under Palais Schwarzenberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On foot<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/schwarzenbergmonument.jpg\" alt=\"The Schwarzenberg monument\" class=\"wp-image-48607\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/schwarzenbergmonument.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/schwarzenbergmonument-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(You can recognise Schwarzenbergplatz by the presence of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/schwarzenberg-monument\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"40807\">this fellow<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time they built the palace complex, of course, this was more or less a country residence. Not anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Belvedere is not right in the middle of the city among all the old town landmarks like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/stefansdom\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"294\">the cathedral<\/a>, it&#8217;s actually not far off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re sightseeing anywhere central, head south to the Ring (the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/ring\/\">wide boulevard<\/a> that encircles the inner district and which also features many of the main sights).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head east or west along the Ring, whichever way takes you to Schwarzenbergplatz. You should see a McDonald&#8217;s on the right and a theater-like building on the left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the distance is a large <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/hochstrahlbrunnen-fountain\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"30035\">fountain<\/a> and a tall column with a soldier on top carrying a flag: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/red-army-memorial\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"30069\">Red Army monument<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walk south until you reach the monument, then pass it using the road on the left (called Rennweg). Keep walking for 150m or so and you&#8217;ll hit the Lower Belvedere entrance on your right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go on a little further past the entrance to find a gateway into the Belvedere gardens, which you can walk through to reach the Upper Belvedere palace as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><em>Ad:<\/em><br><\/div><div data-tiqets-widget=\"discovery\" data-cards-layout=\"horizontal\" data-content-type=\"product\" data-content-ids=\"974613,1025105\" data-partner=\"visitingvienna\" data-tq-campaign=\"DA_Belvedere\"><\/div><script defer=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/widgets.tiqets.com\/loader.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">By public transport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The main Belvedere complex is well-served by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/transport\/public\/\">public transport<\/a>, particularly trams&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For Upper Belvedere<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tram<\/strong>: take the D line to the Schloss Belvedere stop right outside the main entrance to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/upper-belvedere-palace\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3521\">upper palace<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catch the D from any of the stops on the west side of the old town, as this tram travels around the Ring boulevard all the way from the B\u00f6rse stop before turning off towards Belvedere at Schwarzenbergplatz. This route takes it past Schottentor, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/rathaus-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"267\">Rathaus<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/parlament\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"262\">Parliament<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/winter-palace\/heldenplatz\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2748\">Heldenplatz<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/opera\/staatsoper\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1071\">State Opera House<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also take the 18 or O line to Quartier Belvedere and walk for around 7 minutes (or go one stop on the D back in the direction of Nu\u00dfdorf).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/belvederetramstop.jpg\" alt=\"Tram stop sign\" class=\"wp-image-84105\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/belvederetramstop.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/belvederetramstop-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The tram stop for Upper Belvedere)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Subway<\/strong>: U1 (get out at Hauptbahnhof station and walk around 15 minutes to the palace, or catch the D tram down to Belvedere). The U1 crosses the old town, so you can jump on at, for example, Stephansplatz or Schwedenplatz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hauptbahnhof is Vienna&#8217;s biggest station, so often serves as your arrival point if you&#8217;re travelling to the city by rail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This enormous station can be a bit confusing when it comes to finding the right way out of it. I&#8217;ve given up trying, frankly, though to be fair my sense of direction is bad at the best of times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look for the local area maps dotted around the station concourse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For Lower Belvedere<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To reach the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/lower-belvedere\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3384\">lower palace<\/a>, walk down from Upper Belvedere or use tram line 71. The relevant stop is opposite the palace entrance and called Unteres Belvedere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Staying on this tram takes you out to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/mozarts-grave\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1117\">Mozart&#8217;s grave<\/a> at St.Marx and on to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/zentralfriedhof\/\">main cemetery<\/a> with more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/zentralfriedhoffamousgraves\/\">famous graves<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like the D, the 71 follows the Ring boulevard between B\u00f6rse and Schwarzenbergplatz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also simply catch trams D or 2 to Schwarzenbergplatz and walk up around 10 minutes to the palace as described above in the &#8220;on foot&#8221; section.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The good news is the Belvedere palaces and gardens are easy to reach.
