Again, well positioned to access the Sch\u00f6nbrunn complex via the Hietzing Tor park entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The area around the square opposite has plenty of places to eat, including one of our favourite chains: Akakiko for Japanese fusion. Nice if you want to get away from the urban environment now and then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hotel forms part of a wider seminar and meeting complex which includes the historic Springer villa built in 1887.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once owned by Baroness Rothschild, the villa suffered confiscation by the Nazis and the deprivations of allied bombers, plunderers and soviet tanks in WWII. Like the Austria Trend hotels, very close to Hietzing subway station and the west side of the palace park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This also puts it near a small shopping mall as well as the restaurants that line the Hietzinger Hauptstra\u00dfe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A walk around the corner from the hotel brings you to the Hietzing branch of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/cafespubsbars\/konditorei-oberlaa\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"22922\">Kurkonditorei Oberlaa<\/a>: one of Vienna&#8217;s better chains of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/cafespubsbars\/konditorei\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"23020\">caf\u00e9 confectioneries<\/a> with notably friendly staff every time I have visited. So, as noted in the hotel descriptions, expect plenty of good restaurants nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rather obvious attraction is the baroque Sch\u00f6nbrunn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sightseeing\/palace-of-schonbrunn\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1672\">palace and park<\/a> complex. Visit the staterooms <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/schonbrunn\/tour\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"161\">on a tour<\/a>. If you choose the self-guided option, then take the longer tour: it offers much more for the extra cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other paid attractions within the Sch\u00f6nbrunn complex include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/schonbrunn\/orangery-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"15245\">Orangery<\/a> (good for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/schonbrunn-classical-concerts\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5608\">evening concerts<\/a>), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/schonbrunn\/kronprinzengarten\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"15251\">Privy Garden<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/schonbrunn\/maze-labyrinth\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"15481\">Maze<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/schonbrunn\/wagenburg\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"166\">Imperial Carriage Museum<\/a> (with bonus Empress Elisabeth exhibition), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/schonbrunn\/gloriette\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"125\">Gloriette viewing platform<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/schonbrunn\/childrensmuseum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"119\">Children&#8217;s Museum<\/a>, and one of the world&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sightseeing\/palace-of-schonbrunn\/vienna-zoo\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1674\">best zoos<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It costs nothing to wander around the surrounding landscaped palace <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/schonbrunn\/gardens-park\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"15260\">gardens and wider grounds<\/a>, and these contain various highlights, such as (fake) Roman ruins or an obelisk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Outside Sch\u00f6nbrunn<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/technischesmuseum2025.jpg\" alt=\"Front view of the Technisches Museum with logo\" class=\"wp-image-82466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/technischesmuseum2025.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/technischesmuseum2025-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(Look out for the special exhibitions at the Technisches Museum)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the above could keep you busy for a couple of days, but Sch\u00f6nbrunn also adjoins one or two bonus attractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/technical-museum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"18107\">Technisches Museum<\/a>, for example is up the road from the main entrance and, as mentioned, next to the Doubletree hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Museum of Science and Technology complements Sch\u00f6nbrunn Zoo as an excellent place to take the kids, thanks to plenty of interactive displays and more buttons to press than a lift in the Empire State Building. The special exhibitions always offer good value, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those of an artistic bent might want to make a pilgrimage to Hietzing Cemetery, which borders the southwest of Sch\u00f6nbrunn park. Here you find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/klimt-grave\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4689\">Gustav Klimt&#8217;s grave<\/a> (and Otto Wagner&#8217;s). The U4 takes you direct to stations bordering the old town, such as Karlsplatz, Schottenring and Schwedenplatz.
