So the U1 subway line takes you to the old town and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/accommodation\/hotels-vienna-centre\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"42428\">central hotels<\/a> rather quickly. The location just off the Danube means you can pop down to the promenade that runs along this part of the giant waterway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/donauinsel\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"62574\">Donauinsel project<\/a> and flood protection measures, the Danube on this side of the river is effectively turned into a long lake. (Photo will follow when I get a chance to visit.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notable for its intelligent engineering, where smart technology gives automated or individualized control of heating, energy use etc. in the room during your stay (both when in the room and out of it). A strong dining option for late evening with the lights of Vienna below<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As also mentioned above, the self-contained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/alte-donau-old-danube\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"50700\">Alte Donau \/ Old Danube<\/a> stretch of water has plenty of (mostly seasonal) recreational opportunities, including public bathing areas and various waterside restaurants along its banks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I can speak highly of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/cafespubsbars\/bootshaus\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"51127\">Das Bootshaus<\/a>, for example: a restaurant styled like an English rowing club. Cross the Alte Donau along Wagramer Stra\u00dfe, then turn right down the lakeside footpath to reach it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Then you have the mighty <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/mapsgeography\/the-danube\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5019\">Danube<\/a> itself, with its walking and cycling paths. The river splits in two through Vienna, flanking a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/donauinsel\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"62574\">long artificial island<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/danubeunocity.jpg\" alt=\"The Danube with a view across to the UK headquarters\" class=\"wp-image-57870\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/danubeunocity.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/danubeunocity-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The Danube with the Donauinsel in the background and DC Tower &amp; UNO complex behind)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That island (imaginatively named the Donauinsel or &#8220;Danube Island&#8221;) is another popular recreational and event location. For example, the huge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/donauinselfest\/\">Donauinselfest<\/a> music festival takes place there in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Reichsbr\u00fccke bridge takes you from the Austria Center and UN complex to the central section of the Donauinsel, where most of the action takes place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting there &amp; wider attractions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kaiserm\u00fchlen VIC subway station serves the convention centre and UN complex. The U1 line that stops there takes you into the very centre of Vienna in just a few minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/riesenradwinter.jpg\" alt=\"The Riesenrad in the snow seen through the trees\" class=\"wp-image-66105\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/riesenradwinter.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/riesenradwinter-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(You&#8217;re not far from the iconic Riesenrad, seen here in <s>high summer<\/s> winter)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, a four-minute journey takes you to Praterstern and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/prater\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"35726\">Prater<\/a> entertainment and park area that includes one of Vienna&#8217;s landmark sights and experiences: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/riesenrad\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"271\">Riesenrad<\/a> giant Ferris wheel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A seven-minute journey leaves you at Stephansplatz station, where you emerge outside the door of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/stefansdom\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"294\">Stephansdom cathedral<\/a> in the heart of the pedestrianised old town. Which is why a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/accommodation\/hotels-vienna-centre\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"42428\">hotel in the centre<\/a> also makes a decent option if visiting the ACV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U1 also takes you directly to Vienna&#8217;s main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) in about 13 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/transport\/city-to-airport\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3754\">travelling to<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/transport\/airport-to-city\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3799\">or from<\/a>) Vienna International Airport, the Vienna Airport Lines bus has stops in the area, too: very close to both the ARCOTEL and NH Danube City if I recall right, as well as other local hotels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Austria Center Vienna (ACV) is one of the city&#8217;s top convention centres.
