press photo by Rupert Steiner and \u00a9 Heidi Horten Collection)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A large atrium forms most of the ground floor and hosts the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/klimt-warhol-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"75543\">permanent exhibition<\/a>: around 50 works revealing a diversity of eras and art movements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That display features names like Chagall, Basquiat, Warhol, Klimt, Hirst, Bacon, Picasso, and the kind of contemporary names you see with solo exhibitions at places like the Albertina or Belvedere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two more levels (and several smaller rooms) above provide space for a series of special exhibitions that offer further public access to a collection of art that stretches from around 1900 through to today. Recent examples include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/we-love-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"65872\">We\u2764<\/a> exhibition offered masterpieces from a veritable who&#8217;s who of the modern art world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/light-sound-senses-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"76067\">Light Sound Senses<\/a> combined collection highlights with custom installations and immersive experiences that addressed the senses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/experiment-expressionism\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"82173\">Experiment Expressionism<\/a> explored the expressionist movement in the form of paintings, photos, and silent film<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/wigand-alt-olah-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"82954\">Vienna, Vienna, Only You<\/a> had comparative views of the city by three artists: one contemporary and two from the 19th century<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/line-exhibition\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"84519\">The Line<\/a> took that artistic element as its context to present a diverse wealth of art<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It may sound strange to say, but the focus really seems primarily on experiencing the works. No caf\u00e9 or shop to distract you. On Animals and Humans<\/em> (March 27th to August 30th, 2026): a critical exploration of the human\/animal relationship, as portrayed in art<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This part of Vienna offers various other ways to experience humanity&#8217;s artistic creativity, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gorgeous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/albertina\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2995\">Albertina art museum<\/a> is a near neighbour, as is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/opera\/staatsoper\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1071\">Staatsoper<\/a> opera house. And a look down Goethegasse reveals a languid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/goethe-monument\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"39856\">Goethe<\/a>, frozen in bronze contemplation of his next literary masterpiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For something a little more down-to-earth, try the famous Bitzinger sausage stand outside the Hanuschgasse entranceway. Or grab a coffee at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/cafespubsbars\/cafe-mozart\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"23684\">Caf\u00e9 Mozart<\/a> opposite. Mozart himself <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/mozart-monument-burggarten\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5870\">stands<\/a> in the adjoining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/winter-palace\/burggarten\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2746\">Burggarten park<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And for more contemporary art of the kind experienced in the Heidi Horten Collection, try <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/exhibitions\/#modernart\">these exhibition listings<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/contemporary-art\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"25652\">these locations<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to get there<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The museum has two access points from the streets. One on Hanuschgasse and one on Goethegasse.
