As any trip to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/supermarkets\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"70\">supermarket<\/a> here will reveal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a title like Veganmania, you can probably guess what to expect from this festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We popped into the summer version on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/donauinsel\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"62574\">Donauinsel<\/a> (the long artificial island that splits the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/mapsgeography\/the-danube\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5019\">Danube<\/a> in two as it passes through the city) and discovered three festival cornerstones: food, the market &amp; entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Food<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Long rows of booths provided vegan street food and offered a testament to the variety now available. (The organisers actually bill the event as Austria&#8217;s largest street food festival.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An innocent passerby might have seen stalls selling kebabs, burgers, and sausages and thought nothing of it. Ah, but none of those culinary delights involved animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such offerings sat alongside plenty of further choices: vegan dishes from around the world, options for those with a sweeter palate, and alternatives not shaped like a meat product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I enjoyed, for example, a spicy vegan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/food\/leberkase\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"7203\">Leberk\u00e4sesemmel<\/a> from <em>Die Pflanzerei<\/em> vegan butchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><em>Ad:<\/em><br><\/div><div data-tiqets-widget=\"discovery\" data-cards-layout=\"horizontal\" data-slug-ids=\"exp206741,exp238032\" data-partner=\"visitingvienna\" data-tq-campaign=\"DA_ConcTour\"><\/div><script defer src=\"https:\/\/widgets.tiqets.com\/loader.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Market<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The market stands featured a range of vegan products mixed in with stalls highlighting the work of various NGOs tackling both vegan and related issues (like animal welfare).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shopping options covered clothes, shoes, cosmetics, food and nutritional supplements, jewelry, accessories, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My Sunday breakfast, for example, often features fruit spreads from <em>Dein&#8217;s &amp; Mein&#8217;s<\/em>, who have appeared at Veganmania in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/donauinsel1.jpg\" alt=\"View from the Donauinsel across to the Vienna hills\" class=\"wp-image-62577\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/donauinsel1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/donauinsel1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/donauinsel\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"62574\">Donauinsel location<\/a> has plenty of other recreational offers, including walks through nature with views of the outlying Vienna hills)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Entertainment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sporadic entertainment on and off the stage included, for example, live music, yoga sessions, and workshops by LUSH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We went around lunchtime on a Sunday and the place was packed, with queues at almost all the food stalls. Given the nature of the event, though, the atmosphere was relaxed, friendly, and youthful (from my mid-50s perspective!). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All-in-all, then, the perfect place to tuck into something that doesn&#8217;t come with guilt and animal suffering, or browse a variety of vegan shopping opportunities in one place without needing to click on a screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dates, tickets &amp; tips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Veganmania has spring and summer editions. The 2026 dates are June 4th to 7th and September 18th to 20th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entry to the festival site is free. Incidentally, winter also sees an excellent indoor fair from the same organisers: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/vegan-planet\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"53794\">Vegan Planet<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both spring and summer locations have plenty else to offer visitors&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The smaller spring festival takes place on the open area in front of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sightseeing\/vienna-museums\/mq\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"4030\">MuseumsQuartier<\/a>, home to modern and contemporary art museums and institutions, not to mention several caf\u00e9s and restaurants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The larger summer festival occupies space on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/donauinsel\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"62574\">Donauinsel<\/a>, close to the U6 subway stations that flank the island (see below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vienna&#8217;s Donauinsel stretches almost the entire breadth of the city and offers numerous recreational opportunities, such as long walks, BBQ spots, beach bathing, areas for naturists, sports facilities (both on and off the water), places to eat and drink, and bridges across to the banks of the Danube proper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to get to Veganmania<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sightseeing\/vienna-museums\/mq\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"4030\">here<\/a> for the MuseumsQuartier.
