Another is magnificent performances of Vivaldi&#8217;s <em>The Four Seasons<\/em>. I found the concert mesmerising; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/vivaldi-concert-karlskirche\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"74311\">read my 1877 palais once housed the Austrian stock exchange; its central hall is suitably decorative as a reflection of the prestige of the financial business that once went on there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That same hall has turned quotes and transactions to quavers and tremolos as a concert home for the Wiener Residenz Orchestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bonus<\/strong>: central, top href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/classic-ensemble-review\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"61093\">my experience with a friend<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul Vivaldi&#8217;s <em>The Four Seasons<\/em> is a regular. An example might be Adele in Palais Coburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I saw a <em>Best of Bridgerton<\/em> concert in the Albertina art museum, and you can read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/candlelight-concerts\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"75858\">my review<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Concentus21<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the professional scene gets all the plaudits and coverage in Vienna, the city has a strong tradition of amateur productions and players bringing the joys of classical music to audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One notable example is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.concentus21.at\/\">Concentus21 amateur orchestra<\/a>, which rehearses in, for example, the undercroft of the Canisiuskirche church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"take-5\">Take 5<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vereintake5.wien\/\">Take 5 association<\/a> enables a range of cultural events with international performers, including many classical concerts. Think Purcell rather than Puccini<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sclfestival.org\/\">Summa Cum Laude<\/a>: international youth music festival in July with a strong classical focus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/amadeus-festival-vienna\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"62990\">AMADEUS Festival Vienna<\/a>: summer classical music festival in the grounds of the former Semmelweis women&#8217;s hospital<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"other-alternatives\">Other options<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"street-performers\">Street performers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The last couple of times I&#8217;ve been on the Graben (the pedestrianised street at the heart of the city), I&#8217;ve encountered classical street performers, including a small string ensemble and an opera singer accompanied by the flute. Vienna in a nutshell, really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"film-festival\">Film festival<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/filmfestivalfoodstalls.jpg\" alt=\"Food stalls at the Rathausplatz\" class=\"wp-image-55401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/filmfestivalfoodstalls.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/filmfestivalfoodstalls-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(Part of the gastronomy area)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/events\/rathaus-film-festival\/\">Rathaus film festival<\/a> typically runs from the end of June to the start of September, displaying &#8220;films&#8221; on a giant screen in front of city hall. The area of the square not taken up by seating is turned over to a gastronomic journey through Austrian and international cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What&#8217;s this got to do with classical concerts?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, the reason I say &#8220;films&#8221; (with quotation marks) is because most of the screened entertainment is actually music and a large chunk of that is classical music. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One year, for example, the programme included Verdi&#8217;s Requiem, the Concert de Paris by the Orchestre National de France, the Wiener Philharmoniker&#8217;s New Year&#8217;s and Summer Night&#8217;s concerts, numerous operas, and many more of that ilk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">And for something different&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, if none of the above tempt you, I have a whole article on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/evening\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"71635\">things to do in the evening<\/a> in Vienna (other than the obvious visit to a restaurant or bar).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/embed?mid=1BrCYLfHiiy85k0jpzDwlKspb31KiYq4Y\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The city has a musical heritage like no other.
