Kreuze.; Wien Museum Inv.-Nr. 230497; excerpt reproduced with permission under the terms of the CC0 licence)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time, the location stood on the route from the city centre to Sch\u00f6nbrunn Palace and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/culture\/franz-joseph\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"26307\">Emperor Franz Joseph<\/a> apparently told Natter (my translation):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Every time I go to Sch\u00f6nbrunn, I shall always view the Haydn monument with pleasure.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The presence of the statue certainly seems to have had a powerful influence on the area around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Locals know the church as the &#8220;Haydn church&#8221;, the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/theaters\/english-cinemas-vienna\/\">English-language cinema<\/a> is the Haydn Kino, and you can probably guess the name of a hotel located in the same building as the movie theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps swayed by its namesake, the cinema often shows live broadcasts of opera and theatre, rather than just the latest Hollywood releases.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/haydnmonument.jpg\" alt=\"The Haydn monument in Mariahilf\" class=\"wp-image-42827\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/haydnmonument.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/haydnmonument-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The square often hosts a small market)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The location is now one of Vienna&#8217;s busiest on a bustling and partly-pedestrianised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/shopping\/best-places-to-shop\/\">shopping street<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, if you visit Haydn in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/december\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"18508\">December<\/a>, you might find him standing serenely among the sounds and scents of a mini advent market, where Christmas shoppers grab a quick sausage and mug of punch before braving the stores once more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-get-to-the-haydn-monument\">How to get to the Haydn monument<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Given its shopping-themed location, the monument is easy to reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subway: Just a few metres from the entrance to the Neubaugasse station on the U3 line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bus: The 13A bus passes close by. Get off at either Kirchengasse (if travelling north) or Neubaugasse (if travelling south).
