Hence all the celebratory events and activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beethoven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/beethoven\/\">landmarks<\/a> pepper the city, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/beethoven-museum\/\">Beethoven Museum<\/a>, his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/beethovens-grave\/\">grave<\/a>, and more memorial plaques than you can wave a baton at, thanks to his habit of moving house frequently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to wander more than a minute or two in Vienna without finding somewhere the great composer lived, stayed, ate, composed, or performed in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Official designation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The formal designation for the anniversary year was <em>WienBeethoven2020 <\/em>(Wien being the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/visitorinfo\/wien\/\">German for Vienna<\/a>), with a coordination office in Auerspergstra\u00dfe under the leadership of Dr. Susanne Schicker. An exhibition of Marton Barabas&#8217;s sculptures and other art works takes place in autumn (beginning on September 11th).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kunsthistorisches Museum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Vienna&#8217;s Art History Museum has the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/khm\/beethoven-kunsthistorisches\/\">Beethoven Bewegt exhibition<\/a> with a mix of art genres and media that builds a dialogue between artists and Beethoven (and between art and music). Runs from September 29th, 2020 to January 24th, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nationalbibliothek<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Library, home to perhaps the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/winter-palace\/prunksaal\/\">most impressive room<\/a> in Vienna, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/winter-palace\/beethoven-manuscripts\/\">Beethoven documents<\/a> on display until early  2021. This includes excerpts from autograph manuscripts and letters from Beethoven to contemporaries, supporters, students, female friends, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mozarthaus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/haydn-mozart-beethoven\/\">2020\/2021 exhibition<\/a> in Mozart&#8217;s former home looks at the three greats (Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven) of the Wiener Klassik period of classical music and their relationship to each other. Runs through the year from February 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Leopold Museum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/inspirational-beethoven-exhibition\/\">Inspiration Beethoven<\/a> exhibition at the Leopold Museum features a reconstruction of the cycle of paintings done for a music room by Josef Maria Auchentaller, essentially a pictorial representation of Beethoven&#8217;s entire 6th symphony. The exhibition will also feature other works from the period of Vienna Modernism that demonstrate the role of Beethoven and his music as sources of inspiration (November 27th, 2020 to July 4th, 2021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Concerts<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/musikverein.jpg\" alt=\"Front of the Musikverein\" class=\"wp-image-41926\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/musikverein.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/musikverein-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The Musikverein concert venue)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check all the normal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/classical-concert\/\">concert venues<\/a> for Beethoven performances, of which there are dozens throughout the year. But here a few highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RESOUND Beethoven<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a project of the Orchester Wiener Akademie and Martin Haselb\u00f6ck, performing Beethoven&#8217;s works on original instruments and in original venues around Vienna. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Various dates are planned for 2020. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wienerakademie.at\/en\">More information<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Special concerts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Wiener Philharmoniker has a series of concerts in the novel surrounds of that same State Opera House, this time featuring Beethoven&#8217;s chamber music (January 11, January 18, March 28, April 18, May 9, June 13)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Various performances of selected Beethoven&#8217;s works using original instruments from the same era. These take place in the galleries housing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/khm\/historical-instruments\/\">collection of historical musical instruments<\/a> in the Neue Burg wing of the Hofburg Palace (April 25, April 26, September 27, December 17)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/haus-musik\/\">Haus der Musik<\/a> hosts special musical interpretations of Beethoven&#8217;s 6th (Pastoral) symphony for the World Environment Day around June 5th.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Wiener Philharmoniker and conductor Andris Nelsons perform all of Beethoven&#8217;s symphonies across several dates at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/musikverein\/\">Musikverein<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>May 23\/24 &#8211; Symphonies 1 to 3 on each day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>May 27\/28 &#8211; Symphonies 4 and 5 on each day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>June 3\/4 &#8211; Symphonies 6 and 7 on each day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>June 6\/7 &#8211; Symphonies 8 and 9 on each day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra will participate in the worldwide initiative, <em>All Together: A Global Ode to Joy<\/em>. The Austrian concert is now on April 15, 2021 in the Konzerthaus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beethoven piano competition<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Music and Performing Arts has numerous Beethoven concerts and events throughout the year, which you can read about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdw.ac.at\/beethoven2020\/\">here<\/a>.
