And there were some rather fine specialties to be had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\"><em>Ad:<\/em><br><\/div><div data-tiqets-widget=\"discovery\" data-cards-layout=\"horizontal\" data-slug-ids=\"pro1119393,pro1029872\" data-partner=\"visitingvienna\" data-tq-campaign=\"DA_ChristmasNew\"><\/div><script defer src=\"https:\/\/widgets.tiqets.com\/loader.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, one stall looked like a Venetian gourmet market stand, piled high with pecorino, parmesan, salami, pasta, pesto and black truffles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It all felt like an outdoor delicatessen from one of the finer upmarket food stores, but with added Lebkuchen. If you prefer simpler fare, you could still get your punch and chestnuts, of course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A glass roof covered the booths and offered shelter in inclement weather, so you could cheer yourself up in the wet with a quick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/eatingdrinking\/food\/langos\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"59\">langos<\/a> (a local fried snack).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/genussmarktitalian.jpg\" alt=\"Gourmet Italian food stall\" class=\"wp-image-46550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/genussmarktitalian.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/genussmarktitalian-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(Italian culinary flair reaches Vienna)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With so few huts, I wouldn&#8217;t treat this as a destination in its own right. But if you&#8217;re passing, it&#8217;s worth popping into for a glimpse of those assorted Italian delicacies and maybe to refresh yourself with a bite to eat before braving the neighbouring shops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Incidentally, the Haas&amp;Haas tea rooms also has an outdoor courtyard that hosts another Advent alternative (when not booked for private gatherings). Check locally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market took a break across Advent, Christmas and New Year&#8217;s Eve in 2023, 2024 and 2025, but hopefully it returns in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to get to the Genussmarkt<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re wandering the usual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/transport\/walking-tour\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"50322\">tourist trail<\/a> in the city centre, you&#8217;ll probably pass the market. It sits next to the east wing of the State Opera House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subway: take the U1, U2, or U4 lines to Karlsplatz and look for the Oper exits (Karlsplatz is a big subway station).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tram and bus: various tram lines stop next to the opera house at the &#8220;Oper\/Karlsplatz&#8221; stop, including the D, 1, 2, 62 and 71. The 2A bus also stops there.
