Film music, seasonal selections, and original classical music enjoy occasional appearances too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I received press tickets to one such performance: the <em>Best of Bridgerton on Strings<\/em> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/albertina\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2995\">Albertina<\/a> (art museum). So my partner and I swapped Monet for Madonna for a concert in the former small ballroom of the palais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what happens when popular culture meets 19th-century d\u00e9cor?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My experience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I thoroughly enjoyed Netflix&#8217;s Bridgerton show produced by Shondaland, despite my more purist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/stores\/Mark-Brownlow\/author\/B076Y3X89F\">Regency affiliations<\/a>. One of the highlights of each episode is the incorporation of popular music as adapted classical compositions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Classic Sound Vienna<\/em> string quartet presented just over an hour&#8217;s worth of such pieces from all three series, with short introductions to the Bridgerton context at intervals (in German only).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/hallofmuses.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31089\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/hallofmuses.jpeg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/hallofmuses-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The venue, which you can also visit by day. A ticket for the Albertina art museum includes access to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/albertina-staterooms\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2997\">palais staterooms<\/a>; press photo \u00a9 Albertina, Wien)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The musicians played in a veritable sea of artificial (but very convincing) candles of the kind used by such immersive experiences as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/mythos-mozart-experience\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"52203\">Mythos Mozart<\/a>. Real candles would, of course, be a health &amp; safety nightmare: nobody wants to see the cellist catch fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More candles also filled window ledges and other parts of the room. As the only light source, they created a rather lovely ambience in the intimate Musensaal. The room features gilt candelabras and historical pale yellow and pink marbled walls lined with statues of Apollo and the muses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Euterpe would be the muse responsible for music, I think. And she remained remarkably impassive throughout the performance, no doubt quietly admiring the creativity of a culture that has moved from Ariadne to Ariana Grande (whose <em>thank u, next<\/em> featured in the concert).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other pieces drawn from the series included songs by Billy Eilish, Madonna, Taylor Swift, Coldplay and more\u2026as well as the Bridgerton theme tune itself, which has since anchored itself in my head as I go about 21st-century life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fans of the Bridgerton music could thus return to the ballrooms, great houses, and romances of Regency England while immersed in surroundings evoking all three. However, since the ambience depends on low lighting, I&#8217;d advise purchasing tickets that let you sit nearer the stage for an easier-on-the-eye view of the musicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I enjoyed, for example, observing the precision and physicality of the cellist&#8217;s performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alternatively, queue early to get to the front of your allocated block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we had tickets for the Albertina, which happened to be open late on that day, we could skip the queue in the museum atrium and go direct to the Musensaal ticket control. So your choice. (And it&#8217;s dark enough to enjoy obscurity.)
