This might be two or four episodes, depending where you watch)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest series is produced by MR FILM and Endor Productions in a co-production with ORF, ZDF, and Seven.One Studios International.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Support for filming came from FISA+, Film in Austria (ABA), Fernsehfonds Austria, Filmfonds Wien and Land Nieder\u00f6sterreich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, as usual, the story draws on the great books by Frank Tallis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We found just about every outside location and many indoor ones. But if anyone knows where they filmed Strasser&#8217;s villa or Therese&#8217;s apartment block\u2026I&#8217;m all ears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don&#8217;t mention them below, but the exterior shots of the hospital and the Liebermann home are the same locations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/songsfilms\/vienna-blood-locations\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"22811\">covered in Season 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, let us begin\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The police station<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"383\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/viennablood3mak.jpg\" alt=\"Atrium of the MAK museum\" class=\"wp-image-78654\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/viennablood3mak.jpg 383w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/viennablood3mak-255x300.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 383px) 100vw, 383px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The rather nice station entrance hall is the MAK museum; press photo courtesy of and \u00a9 MAK\/Katrin Wi\u00dfkirchen)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main opening scene has Commissioner von Bulow presenting the criminal Franz Burgstaller in the entrance hall of the police station. This location appears several times across the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That hall is the main atrium of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/mak\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"7100\">the MAK<\/a>: a lovely museum built in the mid-1800s that covers applied arts, design and contemporary art. That&#8217;s Palais Hatzenberg-F\u00fcrstenberg at the corner of Gr\u00fcnangergasse and Domgasse in the very centre of town. As far as I can tell, at least three different locations play the role of the casino here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The outdoor shots are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/upper-belvedere-palace\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3521\">Upper Belvedere<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/baroque-gardens\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3395\">gardens<\/a>, which we also saw in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/songsfilms\/vienna-blood-season-3\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"54655\">Season 3<\/a>. This baroque palace now serves as one of Vienna&#8217;s premier art museums. It houses, for example, a world-leading collection of Klimt paintings. Including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/museums\/belvedere-sites\/kiss\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1119\">this one<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/alteboerse1.jpg\" alt=\"Diagonal view of the old stock exchange\" class=\"wp-image-69239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/alteboerse1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/alteboerse1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The Alte B\u00f6rse plays the role of the casino inside Palais Rieger)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The casino itself looks to be the main hall of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/entertainment\/alte-borse\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"69243\">the Alte B\u00f6rse<\/a> (our old stock exchange). So you might argue it makes a rather apt venue for taking risks with money. The hall now hosts, for example, regular concerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The underground casino scenes were filmed (at least in part) at Seegrotte Hinterbr\u00fchl. This former gypsum mine is now a major tourist attraction thanks to its caverns, passageways and huge underground lake: the largest such lake in Europe. The grotto lies just south of Vienna near the town of M\u00f6dling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Newspaper offices<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/postsparkasse2024.jpg\" alt=\"The Postsparkassengeb\u00e4ude\" class=\"wp-image-71697\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/postsparkasse2024.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/postsparkasse2024-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(The baron&#8217;s newspaper premises)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Clara visits the press magnate known as the Baron, the exterior shot shows the 1906 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/postsparkasse-building\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"32273\">Postsparkasse building<\/a>. We also see the Grosse Kassenhalle hall inside a couple of times, which was the main counter space for what was the Austrian Postal Savings Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Postsparkasse represented a major step in the development of modern architecture and counts as one of architect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/footsteps\/otto-wagner-in-vienna\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4917\">Otto Wagner&#8217;s seminal designs<\/a>. You can go inside, since the building now houses academic institutions; the Kassenhalle also has a caf\u00e9 open to the general public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Ministry of War<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/radetzkymonument.jpg\" alt=\"The Radetzky Monument\" class=\"wp-image-48611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/radetzkymonument.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/radetzkymonument-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(Radetzky monument and former Ministry of War)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just before seeing General Straub in his office, we get an outside shot of a statue and historical fa\u00e7ade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The equestrian statue is of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/radetzky-monument\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"39896\">Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz<\/a>. The building contains government offices and was built around the time of Vienna Blood as the Ministry of War. So you can&#8217;t get more historically accurate than that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We then see an ornate interior staircase: this is the Feststiege in the main building of the University of Vienna at Universit\u00e4tsring 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The actress&#8217;s villa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The exterior and interior shots of Katharina Schratt&#8217;s home use the mid-19th century Villa Pereira, located in the small town of W\u00f6rdern on the banks of the Danube about 45 minutes drive northwest of Vienna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Searching for Oskar<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/buchfeldgasse.jpg\" alt=\"Buchfeldgasse\" class=\"wp-image-48776\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/buchfeldgasse.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/buchfeldgasse-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(Buchfeldgasse, where the search for Oskar begins)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Various outdoor street shots appear during the search for Oskar. We see, for example, a daylight view down Buchfeldgasse toward Florianigasse (also used as a location in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/songsfilms\/vienna-blood-season-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"38572\">Seasons 2<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/songsfilms\/vienna-blood-season-3\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"54655\">3<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main confrontation between Oskar and Constable Meier takes place in the alley across from Piaristengasse 44. If you look closer you see the word B\u00fc\u00fchneneingang (stage door &#8211; deliberately misspelled) opposite the alley entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That building opposite is the venerable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.josefstadt.org\/\">Theater in der Josefstadt<\/a> (founded 1788), which itself features in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/songsfilms\/third-man-locations\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"31222\">the Third Man movie<\/a> and remains one of Vienna&#8217;s main theatres today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cathedral<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/stephansdom2023.jpg\" alt=\"Full view of Stephansdom from the south\" class=\"wp-image-70318\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/stephansdom2023.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/stephansdom2023-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-small-font-size\">(Stephansdom cathedral and roof)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hunt for Mephisto and Season 4 of Vienna Blood reaches its crowning moment in (and on top of) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/stefansdom\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"294\">Stephansdom cathedral<\/a>, which plays itself. So we get some lovely close ups of the famous mosaic roof, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gothic cathedral remains Vienna&#8217;s main landmark in the centre. You can nip inside for free, but a proper look <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/stephansdom-tour\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5420\">around the nave<\/a> or access to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/north-tower-stephansdom\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5428\">north<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/south-tower-stephansdom\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5430\">south towers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitingvienna.com\/sights\/stephansdom-catacombs\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"5459\">crypts<\/a> requires a ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And\u2026cut!
